Last night, I was with Abiel and Paul Mark, two friends since childhood that I don’t meet that often anymore. Abiel will come back to Singapore tomorrow. We ate to our heart’s content at Kamay Kainan’s buffet, and talked about the things we normally don’t disclose. It’s nice to realize that your friendship is already beyond the level that relies on constant communication, yet we still do need communication.
At one point, Paul Mark asked us how we would answer the questions of people who ask why there is pain, and somehow, why life seems unfair. We gave all sorts of answers, both logical and somewhat biblical, yet he didn’t seem content with that. It was at that Point that Paul Mark told us about the answer our now-deceased senior pastor told him when he was the one questioning:
Jesus Christ went through pain and sorrow, he KNOWS what you are going through
No amount of logic or reasoning could possibly be better than this answer. What the hurting world wants most is not logic nor reason. What use do they have for the proofs of God’s existence, or the God’s answer to Job about His unfathomable sovereign will. What the world needs and wants is to know that someone understands them, that they are not alone.
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin" -Hebrews 4:15
